2020 Coaches Code of Conduct

Summary

Ballparks of America refers to much more than a facility or the competition on the field. The primary
goal of our organization is to provide a positive environment for all of those who play this game. As a
coach of a youth sport, you have tremendous influence to shape the overall experience for your
athletes. It is our expectation that you do so in a positive manner. All coaches and scorekeepers must
sign this form and return it to Ballparks of America before they will be allowed on the field during
games.

Expected behavior from coaches/scorekeepers/adults:

  1. Absolutely no tobacco, alcohol, or drug use at Ballparks of America.
  2. Always provide a safe environment for your players.
  3. Place the development of the player (mentally and physically) above winning.
  4. No profanity at any time.
  5. Honor the rules and play the game with the spirit of the rules in mind; don’t try to manipulate the rules in your favor.
  6. No arguing with opposing coaches, players, or supporters.
  7. Treat the umpires with respect and professional courtesy. Arguing with umpires is not acceptable behavior. If you have questions about a call, calmly ask for timeout and discuss the situation quietly so that the fans and players cannot hear you.
  8. Be supportive of your players and your opponents. Congratulate all players for good plays, check on them if they are injured, and promote good sportsmanship at all times.
  9. Control your parents, but do so in such a way as to not draw attention to their behavior. Calmly walk over to them and ask them politely to discontinue any inappropriate actions.
  10. Promote a positive attitude at all times. Display self-control, respect, and professionalism toward everyone involved in the game.
  11. Ensure that all team members respect the facility by removing all trash from the dugout and spectator areas after each game.
  12. Only coaches and players are allowed on the field at any time.
  13. One on one interactions between a minor amateur athlete and an adult who is not the minor’s legal guardian must be within an observable and interruptible distance from another adult, except in emergency circumstances.
  14. Any incidents of alleged, or suspected emotional, physical or sexual abuse of a minor athlete must be reported to Ballparks of America immediately.

Refusing to abide by any of the above behavioral guidelines above may result in consequences including, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Confinement to the dugout (during the game)
  3. Expulsion from the game and/or facility for one or multiple games
