Bring Your Own Technology Leasing Policy

The following Beaumont School Bring Your Own Technology ("BYOT") Leasing Policy provides additional guidelines pertaining to the school-owned device Lease Program.

I. Ownership. Beaumont-issued devices and chargers distributed to students are the property of Beaumont School and are being distributed to students for the purposes outlined herein. Students are to return their devices at the conclusion of each school year, specifically on or before the School’s last scheduled day of final exams. Should a participating student withdraw from Beaumont School, the student will promptly surrender the device to Beaumont School administration.

II. Acceptable Use. Participating students are only authorized to use the device in a manner consistent with the established instructional, research, and administrative objectives of Beaumont School. Participating students shall comply with the policies and guidelines established in the Beaumont School Student & Parent/Guardian Handbook, including, but not limited to, the section entitled “Beaumont School Personal Computing Device, Computer Network and Internet Acceptable Use Agreement.”

III. Liability and Privacy. Students will be solely responsible for all material transmitted or stored on the device. Students will ensure that the device will be free from all content that may compromise the BYOT Student Network, equipment, or software that may be inconsistent with the mission and integrity of Beaumont School.

IV. Repair and Maintenance. Given the possibility the devices shall be rotated to other students, Beaumont School will remove student-specific content from each device at the conclusion of each school year and return device settings back to factory defaults. Students are responsible for transferring work product and other content prior to the returning of the device. In most cases student data will be stored in the cloud (i.e. Google Drive or Microsoft 365). Beaumont School cannot guarantee the privacy of any content transmitted and stored on the devices. Beaumont School reserves the right to monitor and inspect the devices and all content (including but not limited to graphics, videos, and written content) consistent with the policies and procedures outlined in the Student & Parent/Guardian Handbook and/or for just cause. Beaumont School will not be liable for unattended, lost, stolen, or damaged devices. In the event a device is lost, stolen, damaged, or in need of repair, the student must report such occurrence to Beaumont School Technology Department immediately. In the event a device is stolen off-campus, the student’s parent or guardian is required to file a police report and shall provide a copy of the filed police report to Beaumont School administration. If devices are damaged, but repairable (broken screen, significant cosmetic damage, etc) students will be charged a repair/maintenance fee per such occurrence. If devices are damaged beyond repair, students will be responsible for the full replacement cost. If a device charger is damaged beyond repair, students will be responsible for the full replacement cost.

V. Disciplinary Measures. Non-compliance with the expectations outlined herein and/or violations of the Student & Parent/Guardian Handbook involving school-leased devices will result in Beaumont School reclaiming the device from the student in addition to appropriate disciplinary measures consistent with the policies and procedures outlined in the Student & Parent/Guardian Handbook.
