Class Descriptions

Nose Work:

Drive Building - This class focuses on the dog's nose work skills (hunt drive, independence, problem solving, and confidence). It is open to dogs of all levels, and is recommended for beginners before taking the Patterns and Handling class.

Patterns and Handling - This class focuses on the skills the handler needs in nose work, including mechanical skills (leash handling, foodwork, reinforcement timing and placement), reading your dog, and search strategies.

Drive and Handling - This class focuses on maintaining Foundation while also addressing handler skills (see above).

Elite - This class focuses on skills specifically needed when trialing in Elite and Summit (or Detective). Usually dogs should have at least one NW3 title to participate in this class. Please contact me directly for exceptions.

For all classes: Auditing spots are non-working - you may observe and ask questions.

Obedience:

DogJutsu - this is our practical obedience program.

Handler's Choice - in this class you can choose your topic! Precision obedience, practical obedience, treibball, or tricks.

Converging/Pooling/Trapping

This class will focus on setting hide problems that expose the dog to converging odor, and pooling/trapping odor. We will also focus on the handler's reading of these situations and influence on the dog (for better or worse). You will need to be able to set the odor 1-2 hours or more before class some weeks (in an area the dog cannot access before class). 1-2 fans will also be utilized at least one week.

Multiple dog handlers - please sign up only 1 dog to start. If there are still spots remaining after 24 hours, you may take additional spots.

Multiple dog handlers - please sign up only 1 dog to start. If there are still spots remaining after 24 hours, you may take additional spots.

Time Management

This class will focus on determining how long a given search area or portion of a search area should take you and your dog, how to improve your internal clock in nose work, improving your times, and more. Large search areas required, so you will need to be able to go to a field trip location if you don’t have large areas at home.
