ACCB 2024 Call for Symposia

The Society for Conservation Biology Africa Region is excited to host the 4th Africa Congress for Conservation Biology (ACCB) at the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka, in Moshi, Tanzania, from October 19-21, 2024.

ACCB is accepting proposals for symposia and lunchtime sessions (workshops, training courses and roundtable discussions) through 26 June 2024

Use this form to submit your proposal for a symposium. You can find the proposal submission forms for lunchtime sessions on the ACCB 2024 website

Please Note: ACCB 2024 follows a "One Proposal" rule, which means you may submit one proposal total across all categories (symposia and lunchtime workshops, training courses, and roundtable discussions).

Definitions

Symposium Organizer: All symposia must have an organizer, the individual responsible for submitting the proposal to present a symposium at ACCB. The symposium organizer serves as the main point of contact and oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of the symposium, including responsibility for inviting speakers to present their research at the symposium.

Symposium Co-organizer: Some symposium organizers have support from a co-organizer. The co-organizer assists the main organizer in preparing and organizing the symposium. A co-organizer may also serve as an invited speaker.

Invited Speaker: A regular symposium (90-minutes) should have five invited speakers. An invited speaker is an expert who the symposium organizer invites to present a scientific talk at the symposium. Invited speakers submit their abstracts to your symposium after your symposium has been accepted.

Symposium Type/Duration Requested
ACCB 2024 features three types of symposia:

1. Regular Symposia are 90-minutes and the most common session type at ACCB. Regular Symposia feature five 12-minute talks, each followed by three-minute audience Q&A, and a 15-minute general discussion period.

2. Extended Symposia are 180-minutes. There is a break following the first 90-minutes. Extended Symposia feature 10-12 minute talks, each follwed by a three-minute audience Q&A, and a 30-minute general discussion period. It's the discretion of the symposium organizer on how to schedule the 30-minutes of general discussion (i.e. split evenly between the first and second part of the symposium, held entirely within the first or second part of the symposium, etc).

3. Symposia with Roundtable Discussion are 180 minutes and combine a regular symposium (part 1) with a roundtable discussion (part 2). Symposia with Roundtable Discussion allow for a deep and broad introduction of a topic in the first 90-minutes (structured like a regular symposium) followed by the development of tangible and actionable outputs in the 90-minute roundtable discussion period.
