Fine Art Festival 2024

The West Hartford Art League Art Festival will be held (rain or shine) on the grounds of our 90 year old non-profit arts organization at 37 Buena Vista Road in West Hartford. Our mission “to educate and inspire” is reflected in our monthly exhibits of local and regional artists in our two galleries, our year round roster of art classes for all ages and abilities, our summer art camp, and the public art program we founded in 2006.

Entries are classified by category and will be juried by working professionals and/or teachers in any of those categories. Artists will be selected from the top entrants to form a balanced exhibit. First, second and third place will be awarded to exhibitors

Submissions:

1. This exhibit is open to fine arts in the following categories:

Painting oil, alkyds,oil sticks, watercolor, acrylic.  Pastel: Soft or Oil Pastels, Graphics,  Drawing, Mixed Media, Handmade Jewelry, Collage, Sculpture, Photography, Ceramics, Fiber, Wood, Glass and fine art Printmaking (lithography, woodcut, linoleum relief printing, etching, serigraphs)

2. All works must be original, executed and signed by the originating artist. Original print and photography editions must be numbered. We do not permit giclees, offset, color Xerox, laser or other forms of commercial reproductions of work

3. Works exhibited must be in the same style and quality to those submitted for entry.

  Jury/ Deadline: 

  1. To apply – please send four jpg images of good quality showing four different examples of work plus one image showing your set up tent  with display.This is required. If this is your first show and you don't have a booth photo please call to discuss tent set up and expectations. (860) 231-8019.
    Max size 1 MB for each image. Images must be uploaded on our website at westhartfordart.org/artfestival23. Please label all images with artists first and last name, followed by the number. Example JohnSmith1, JohnSmith2, etc.
  2. Your name must appear consistently on your images, applications and checks. Your name and website will be listed in the program exactly as submitted.
  3. Each artist wishing to exhibit must submit an entry form and full fee. (The exception is if two artists are fully involved in the production of the craft and if the work is collaborative). This exhibits focus is on the work of individual artists, not groups, collectives, or production facilities.
  4. Entries must be received by August 30th, 5 pm. No exceptions. 
  5. PLEASE NOTE: Space fees are non-refundable, unless the jury denies participation. Full payment of space fee must accompany the application form.
  6. The decision of the jury is final. No applications will be accepted after the closing date of August 30 , 5 pm . Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  7. ALSO NOTE: An accepted application is a commitment to show. Please contact us by phone if you need to cancel. Space may not be sold or transferred to other artists. All artists are required to be present during scheduled show hours and to stay until closing.
  8. A $250 Cash Prize will be awarded for "Best in Show" 

 Exhibit Spaces:

  1. White tents are required. Artists supply and set-up their own tent (10’ x 10') tables, chairs, easels, display stands. All spaces will be in the lower levelof the Art League lot and grass. All are on pavement or grass. Stakes are not permitted on pavement. Tents and display must be sturdy enough to withstand wind and weather, and must be securely staked or weighted down. A minimum of 160 pounds of weight (40 each leg ) is required. No exceptions. Since the show is outdoors, no electricity is available. Please be prepared for uneven ground. Tents must be hosted by the artist or artist representative the entire weekend.
  2. Placement is assigned, and is based on first come/first served.
  3. Each exhibitor is responsible for their own property in the event of loss, damage, or personal injury.
  4. Tents, racks, easels, tables and chairs may remain on the grounds overnight at the risk of the artist.
  5. Tents must be set up by 9:30 am on the morning of September 28th for a 10 a.m opening. Art League volunteers will inspect all tents prior to opening for weights and proper set-up.
  6. Artists can set up tents anytime on Friday, Sept. 27th after 2 pm. Locations will be assigned and marked prior to set-up. All tents and inventory left on site is left at artists risk. The police will be informed to patrol the site during the evening but we take no responsiblity for any loss or damage.
  7. Artists can drive up to tent location to unload and then move their car. We are looking into having a designated parking area for artists. Stay tuned.

        Fees/ Liability:

  1. The jury fee is $25 and is not refunded. The entry fee is $125 for early registration, (for a total fee of $150) if you register before April 15th or $200 (for a total of $225 ) if you register after April 15th. The entry fee will be refunded in the manner you paid if not selected. There will be no refunds once selections are made and artists are selected.  
  2. Exhibitors must have a valid Connecticut Sales tax identification number. If you do not have a sales tax number, apply online at: CT.gov/DRS or call 1 (800) 382-9463.
  3. Once selected, additional information will be sent regarding parking, set-up and break-down times, and lodging.
  4. SALES TAX: All exhibitors must have and display a valid Connecticut State Tax Number. To apply for a Connecticut State Tax Number complete Form REG-1 w. Exhibitors not in compliance will be asked to leave. No refunds will be granted.

Tables, chairs and display stands are your responsibility.
